“MARY MARY” BACK TOGETHER AGAIN?? Kanyinsola Okafor July 9, 2016 News Mary Mary; the Grammy Award winning American contemporary gospel duo, consisting of sisters Erica Atkins-Campbell and Trecina Atkins-Campbell, who broke into the music scene with their popular song Shackles (Praise You) , and broadened the fan base of urban contemporary music in the 2000s, have finally decided to take a break from their individual careers. The duo first split up in December 2012, after 12 long years of building a career together in the gospel music industry. In the interviews that followed after their break up, Mary Mary spoke about the reason for their split, that it was to give each other space to focus on themselves and find individual fulfillment. Tina said, and i quote; “When you are unfulfilled individually, it’s really hard to be a contributor to a unit. And Erica wanted to do some of her own things creatively, I wanted to be home a little more. I’m sick of rocking babies, airplanes and microphones! Just let me breathe! And I love what I do, I love who I sing about, and I’m like, this passion done died. And I know I don’t want to do nothing else but this. That means I need to take a minute.” In the fifth season of their WE tv reality television show that was launched earlier this year March 2016, Mary Mary season 5, there were discussions about replacing Tina in their gospel music group.
